Shinpaugh continues tale of Mary Margaret Mellon in latest book

Local author Jan Shinpaugh has completed the second book in a trilogy titled “Mary Margaret Mellon,” whose life during the 1940s was a whirlwind of excitement.The books chronicle the fictitious life of Mary, who in book one loses both her parents. Mary makes the fateful decision to relocate from her small town to a big city and stumbles into a world in stark, and sometimes dark, contrast to the one she knew, one filled with racism, sexual harassment, the Ku Klux Klan, arson, romance, murder, and World War ll espionage.Book two, “The Home Front,” continues where book one left off. Shinpaugh says book two is darker than the first.“Working on the first draft of book two, I’ve found it is a lot darker than book one,” she said.
