A Sparta man barely escaped plunging into the depths of the Collins River when his log truck jack knifed and slammed into the guard rail on the bridge by the VFW on Monday afternoon. The driver of the log truck, William Anderson, 47, avoided injury when his 1992 Peterbilt crashed into the guard rail while sliding on its side down the westbound hill of Sparta Highway. The log truck or its contents didn’t hit any other vehicles during its slide.According to Highway Patrol reports, Anderson was pulling a full load of logs on his trailer and traveling toward McMinnville when his load shifted as he was rounding the turn just before the bridge. The shift caused him to lose control and the truck to jack knife.
