Sellers selected to join MDRFC
Dan Sellers

An original member of the McMinnville Downtown Revenue Finance Corporation has been ousted by Warren County government.

The full Warren County Commission met and appointed Dan Sellers as its representative on the McMinnville Downtown Revenue Finance Corporation beginning in January 2021. He will replace Mike Weatherspoon, who sought reappointment when his six-year term expires next month.

Commissioner Christy Ross tossed Sellers’ hat into the ring.

“I would like to add Dan Sellers to that list,” said Ross. “To clarify who that is, Dan Sellers is a downtown business owner. He is a financial planner. He owns Pure Wealth Financial Management. He is very interested in this appointment and I would hope that people would consider him. He would be fresh legs on the committee.”

Weatherspoon has been a member of MDRFC since its establishment 14 years ago.

The corporation oversees a program which offers financial incentives designed to encourage commercial development and residential housing development. If the development meets certain criteria, property taxes can be frozen at the pre-improvement level for a set period.

Sellers is a member of Main Street McMinnville’s Board of Directors.

County Commission members voted 16-6 in favor of Sellers, whose appointment drew approval from Commissioners Michael Bell, Carl E. Bouldin, Carl D. Bouldin, Carlene Brown, David Dunlap, Steve Glenn, Steven Helton, Robert Hennessee, Gary Martin, Daniel Owens, Kasey Owens, Christy Ross, Tyrone Sparkman, Cole Taylor, Phillip Stout and Blaine Wilcher.

Each commissioner was given one vote that they could cast in favor of their choice. Commissioners Randy England, Deborah Evans, Brad Hillis, Scott Rubley, Tommy Savage and Joseph Stotts did not vote in favor of Sellers.

Reappointed to the MDRFC was Lynne Cole. She was approved by the McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen to remain the joint appointee of the two governments. County commissioners unanimously gave their approval for Cole to remain a member.

McMinnville Downtown Revenue Finance Corporation member Rodney Boyd says Weatherspoon was an asset who will be missed and welcomed Sellers on board.

“Mike was passionate about seeing the MDRFC be successful by encouraging ground-floor commercial development and upper-story office and/or residential housing development,” said Boyd. “He was instrumental in expanding the capability of the MDRFC city-wide to include money-saving opportunities for owners of qualifying properties to freeze the property tax payments at their pre-development rate for between five and 15 years. He will certainly be missed. We welcome Dan Sellers to the MDRFC board and look forward to working with him to promote growth in our city.”
