Dibrell Elementary instructional coordinator Joe Bost was named certified employee of the month, and West Elementary special education teacher assistant Cindy Smartt was named classified employee of the month for February by the Warren County School System.
The two were presented plaques by School Board members and their principals Thursday night.
Dibrell principal Lisa Paz-Mason told of Bost’s 40 years of service in education in her letter to the Board of Education. He began teaching resource classes in 1974. He has taught special education classes, middle grade math classes and self-contained classes. He was also a Title 1 teacher who specialized in differentiated strategies of instruction.
“Mr. Bost has many hats. Not only does he still teach teachers about different computer programs, he shares the wealth of knowledge that he has accumulated over the years. He shares that wisdom in many aspects such as: He serves as maintenance man, computer technician, videos most of the basketball games and events, yearbook designer, serves as the traffic control officer for car riders, the photographer and maintains the school’s website,” said Mason. “Dibrell elementary is very lucky to have a man who has devoted his life to kids, always supportive, genuine, a role model for young men and focused in helping children to strive to be their best.”
Bost is married to Linda Bost who has been Dibrell’s secretary for 45 years. Their daughter, Allison Bost, is a teacher at Dibrell.
Smartt has been at West Elementary for five years. She serves as a special education teacher’s assistant and works primarily with children in grades K-3. She also serves as a behavioral assistant working with students with a variety of needs.
West principal Michelle Lewis said of Smartt in her letter to the board, “Cindy never hesitates to help in any situation where she is needed and has great rapport with the students. She is a wonderful asset to our school and goes above and beyond her job requirements to meet the needs of all concerned. She is very dedicated and professional in all that she does and is well respected by students, parents and staff.”
Smartt is married to Jason Smartt and has three children, Katie, Jenna and Jaden. She also has one grandson named Lake.
