The debate is over on whether students in Warren County Schools will be given football homecoming day off this year. They will not.
“We discussed the options with principals and decided to leave the calendar as is,” said Director of Schools Bobby Cox. “Currently, homecoming is scheduled for Sept. 23.”
The options were to leave things like they are and allow checkouts for the parade, or dismiss school for the parade, either on a half-day or full-day basis.
Cox says one change was made from the draft calendar and that was to move the school system’s fall break to coincide with Columbus Day, as it has been in the past.
“We did ask for feedback from all of our staff at least two times,” Cox said.
School Board member Bill Zechman said he has received comments the school system should go to a two-year calendar so parents will know what the calendar is a year in advance.
School Board member Scott Holmes was not warm to the idea.
“We used to do a three-year calendar, if you’ll remember,” said Holmes. “I think the idea that has been followed is the calendar stays consistent from year to year so we have consistency. I agree with what you are saying but keeping the calendar consistent probably handles that situation.”
The calendar was unanimously approved.
