Amid concerns from the Warren County Commission over a request for $1 million in annual pay raises for all school employees, the School Board met in special session Monday night to reveal the school system simply does not have enough money in its budget to fund the raises.“There’s just no way we can do it,” declared Director of Schools Bobby Cox after going over line-item parts of the school budget for visiting County Commissioners Ronnie Lee and Les Trotman. At question is nearly $1 million in raises which would work out to around a 2 percent raise. Some members of the Warren County Commission, during consideration of the request last week, felt the school system could reach into its own funds to pay for the raise. However, Cox said there would be no way to fund the recurring raise.“A bonus is one thing since that’s just for that year,” Cox said.
