The School Board and county government are playing volleyball with the school budget with neither making any points in the struggle to fund education without an increase in property tax.The county’s Education Committee voted unanimously Monday night to return the budget to the School Board for revisions and possible cuts. The School Board reviewed the budget again Thursday night, made no cuts, and returned it unchanged to the county.Director of Schools Dr. Jerry Hale informed School Board members of what transpired at the Education Committee meeting.“After they started asking a few questions about expenditures, well, really only one I guess, I pointed out what they were dealing with was more of a revenue issue than an expenditure issue, “ Hale said. “Of course they don’t have line item veto anyway, so they take the budget as a total whether it’s either up or down.
