There’s been a changing of the guard at the School Board as a new chairman and vice chair have been named for the coming year.Scott Holmes was elected School Board chairman by unanimous vote during the board’s regular meeting which was held last week at Bobby Ray Elementary so the board could tour the ongoing expansion work to the school’s gym.Holmes was nominated by outgoing School Board chair Linda Blair. He will serve a year as chair before the next appointment comes around. A motion that would have made board chairperson appointments open-ended, meaning they would serve until they were either supplanted or asked to step down, was tabled last year with opponents saying making a permanent chairperson would discourage other board members from taking leadership positions.Meanwhile, a possible showdown for vice chair of the board was averted when Bill Zechman declined the nomination after freshman board member Helen Martin was nominated by fellow freshman member James Bennett.
