Gearing up for the upcoming Labor Day weekend, McMinnville Police Department will be conducting a saturation patrol today. Officers will be looking for signs of impaired drivers.Over the past several weeks, saturation patrols have become more frequent – and the increase seems to be working.“So far the city of McMinnville has had only one alcohol or drug-related accident and no accidents involving deaths during the saturated patrols conducted by McMinnville Police Department,” said McMinnville Police Lt. Mark Mara. There are three reasons for the department’s success, with two being the use of trained officers who know what to look, and drivers getting the message these activities will not be tolerated, says Mara. “We strongly feel this is because highly motivated and trained officers comprise the team conducting saturation patrols and because people are heeding to our warning not to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” he said. The final reason for the lack of incidents during saturation patrols is the community’s support in helping make streets safer.
