Red Cross swim instructor Tabetha Pack was busy Monday night coaxing children to stick their face in the water and splash around Gilley Pool.Pack says she’s devoted to teaching kids how to swim at the urging of her mother.“My mom was big on making sure we knew how to swim because she can’t swim and she’s terrified of the water,” said Pack.Pack is one of the dozens of volunteers who devote their time each summer to ensure area children – and a few adults – learn how to swim. It’s a family affair for the Packs as Tabetha’s dad, Roy, is also a certified Red Cross swim instructor. Her brothers, Michael, Dustin, and Dalton Pack, have all helped in the past or are helping this year.“At this level we want to teach basic water safety,” said Pack, who herself took advantage of free Red Cross swim lessons when they were offered at the old pool.
