Post Office to accept letters to Santa Claus

McMinnville Post Office employees are once again offering to be the liaison between Santa Claus and local children. A box will be placed in the lobby by Nov. 27 for an express pass to the big man himself.
“We will once again have a mailbox in the lobby so children can send their letters to Santa,” said postal supervisor Sherrie Honea. “We pull them every night. If they put their name and return address on it, then we are going to make sure their letters get answered by Santa.”
The mailbox will not be available until after Thanksgiving.
“We wanted to get past the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Honea. “We will be ready to go on the Friday after Thanks-giving.”
The mailbox will be available until Dec. 23.
“We are going to leave the mailbox out until Dec. 23,” said Honea. “For a response, children need to get their letters in before the 23rd to give Santa time to answer them and give us time to deliver them by Christmas. After the 23rd, Santa is going to be too busy to answer letters.”
This is the third year for local postal employees to offer this mail delivery service between children and Santa Claus. Only Santa letters that include names and return addresses will be answered.
