Eight Tennessee counties saw their population drop over the past decade, according to 2010 Census Bureau figures. But the state’s other 87 counties saw population increases with some, like Rutherford County, seeing a population boom of 80,000 people in 10 years. Warren County saw a population increase of 1,563 residents and now has a total population of 39,839.With new population statistics in hand, state lawmakers are looking at reconfiguring Tennessee’s 33 Senate and 99 House districts. Also under consideration are Tennessee’s nine congressional districts in the U.S. House of Representatives. The big picture is evening the voting districts so they have roughly the same number of constituents.
