Police have stepped up enforcement on the city’s red light district in an operation aimed at catching those who run traffic lights on the bypass.“We find many of those who run red lights may do so because they are under the influence of an intoxicant,” said McMinnville Police Lt. Mark Mara, noting the extra manpower is being paid for by a state campaign called Be A Survivor, Get A Designated Driver. “When a person is under the influence, their judgment is impaired and therefore their decision-making process is slowed. This leads to them not paying attention, and with slower reflexes, often failing to stop when the light is red.”Eight motorists were stopped last weekend as part of the operation.
