MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — A Murfreesboro resident has filed a $3 million lawsuit against the city and police department, claiming that he was beaten outside his home.

The Daily News Journal reports the suit filed by Joseph Sushak says officers drew their guns on him and beat him while responding to a high speed chase involving a 28-year-old Laotion man. Sushack is black, and of Nigerian descent.

The civil suit also claims the Murfreesboro Police engage in a pattern of improper arrests and "unjustified, unreasonable and illegal uses of force" against residents.

Asked about the suit, Police Maj. Clyde Adkison told the newspaper that neither the city nor the police could comment on pending litigation.

An internal investigation of the arrest by police determined there was no evidence of wrongdoing.
