The county’s new Financial Management Committee performed two of its first duties at its initial meeting earlier this month when it chose a chairman and director for the seven-member group which will assume oversight of purchasing for the highway department, school system and county government as of July 1, 2012.Warren County Executive John Pelham was chosen chairman, and director of accounts Linda Hillis was chosen as director, both by unanimous vote, but not before some discussion about whether the director position should be publicly posted.Three of the Financial Management Committee’s members are set by state statute — County Executive John Pelham, Director of Schools Dr. Jerry Hale and Road Superintendent Levie Glenn. The remaining four, chosen at July’s Warren County Commission meeting, are Education Committee chairman Terry Bell, Budget and Finance Committee chairman Herschel Wells, Highway and Bridge Committee chairman Gary Prater, and Building and Grounds Committee chairman Carl Bouldin. All members were present at the meeting.Since there was no chairman, Pelham called the meeting to order.
