A man awoke to the sounds of burglars’ voices outside his bedroom door, prompting a foot chase by police and charges against two suspects. The suspected burglars, John D. Allen and Brandon Locke were bound on the charge of aggravated burglary for breaking in to an apartment where a man was sleeping. The incident, according to McMinnville Patrolman Ben Cantrell, happened after the woman who lived in the apartment left, leaving behind her boyfriend sleeping in the bedroom.“He said he woke up and heard voices coming from inside the apartment,” Cantrell testified, noting the men reportedly fled the scene when they heard the man moving around in the bedroom. While the man in the apartment did not get a good look at the men, a neighbor provided a good description to police as she saw them breaking in through a back window at the apartment. Officer Cantrell reported finding pry marks on the window and that the screen had been removed.Acting on the description and the his knowledge that Allen and Locke were friends, he went to Allen’s nearby residence where he knocked and heard the suspect fleeing out the back window of his apartment. Police caught Allen following a short foot chase.Allen demanded a preliminary hearing Tuesday before Judge Ross while Locke waived his right to preliminary hearing.
