A Grundy County man who showed up at an emergency room over the weekend with injuries consistent with an explosion is expected to face a number of charges after a search of his home produced pipe bombs and an estimated 70 pounds of marijuana.
The man was identified Monday as Carl James Arnold, 33, of Palmer.
According to information provided by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department, Arnold showed up at the emergency room in Dunlap seeking medical treatment for an injured hand and arm. His injuries were consistent with an explosion.
Deputies went to his home off Highway 399 in Palmer and found what appeared to be a pipe bomb that had been detonated. Deputies also found what they suspected were three additional pipe bombs.
The residence was secured and a search warrant was obtained. With the assistance of the ATF, TBI, THP and Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Department, those devices were cleared.
During their search, investigators discovered an estimated 70 pounds of marijuana, weapons, ammo and $7,700 in cash. The suspect was flown to an area hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
The investigation is still ongoing and charges are expected.
