A mother who allegedly led her children on a shoplifting mission to Walmart faces theft and contributing charges.
The mother, Melissa F. Yates, 40, will face hearing March 12 on charges of shoplifting and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Her charges come after she was caught stealing $82 worth of items from Walmart. Loss prevention agents at the store said one of her children also shoplifted, however they refused to charge the child.
During subsequent questioning, Yates reportedly confessed to stealing the items and concealing them in her purse.
The children who accompanied her included two of her children and another child not belonging to her. During questioning they implicated Yates.
“After questioning the children all agreed the group went to Walmart with a plan of taking items,” the warrant against Yates claims.
Yates resisted entering a plea agreement last week, opting to schedule a hearing date. It is not known if the juveniles will testify against her during that hearing.
