A man charged with stabbing a customer at Applebee’s earlier this year has been bound to the grand jury again for felony assault, this time for allegedly threatening a local businessman with a knife. The suspect, Jeffery Earl Morton, 51, was bound to the grand jury Tuesday on the charge of aggravated assault by General Sessions Judge Larry Ross, three months after the same judge bound him over for cutting Charles Cole, 27, with a knife at the Applebee’s bar. Morton is free on bond on both cases.Morton faces his most recent charge for a confrontation with Ricky Minton at Triangle Nursery. “He had a discussion about work at Triangle Nursery with me in my office and made threats toward my physical welfare,” Minton said in the felony assault warrant against Morton.During the confrontation, Minton said he heard something drop to the floor and discovered the sound was that of a knife which Minton suspects was on Morton’s person at the time of the dispute. The incident happened about two months after Morton allegedly cut Cole, slashing the victim’s face and arm in front of a restaurant full of witnesses at Applebee’s.
