Boyd 10th-grader Brea Moody emerged from a field of hundreds of entrants to win the American Association of University Women Art Show at Three Star Mall.
“I decided to do a landscape, sort of a desert scene,” said Moody. “It’s all done using water colors.”
Local resident Joe Stillwell was so impressed with Moody’s artwork, he arranged to get a copy of it after the show.
“I’ve looked at all of these and I really admire this one,” said Stillwell referring to Moody’s painting.
Other winners included Lily Gillespie, Marynia Harris, Hunter Kelley, and Michael Mullican. Harris had one of the more unique entries.
“My teacher told us we could create anything we wanted but it had to be using a chicken,” said Marynia. “So I decided to put my chicken in a mirror house.”
The chicken is shown looking at itself in a mirror while laying an egg.
All the artwork is on display at the mall in the old Bookland location. The art display will remain open during regular mall hours until Monday, May 13 at noon.
AAUW show coordinator Loyce McGregor said judges had their hands full with this year’s batch of impressive entries.
“I know some of the criteria they used this year included color, balance, and emphasis on detail,” said McGregor.
The annual art show is open to all students in grades K-12, regardless of what school they attend.
