A man who stole and cut up a piece of machinery to sell as scrap metal has been sentenced to two months in jail.The man, Jarrod Martin Minton, 27, was directed by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to serve 60 days of a four-year sentence, perform 16 hours public service work, and make $6,500 restitution to the victim. He must also serve the balance of a prior sentence for violating his probation on a conviction from General Sessions court.Minton was charged after it was discovered he had sold various amounts of metal to Southern Central. The metal, it was learned, had been stolen.Specifically, Minton sold metal from machinery belonging to Jeffery Moffitt which he found on Harrison Ferry Mountain.“He took a torch and cut up a log skidder and boom and sold the metal to Southern Central,” said sheriff’s investigator Jason Rowland.
