Memorial Day tribute

Over a hundred people sacrificed a late sleep and braved the rain Monday morning to pay tribute to the over one million fallen service men and women who gave their lives in defense of their country. “We are here to honor the more than a million men and women who lost their lives from the American Revolution to the War on Terror,” keynote speaker Mel Steenwyk told those huddled beneath umbrellas and trees as an early morning shower settled over Warren County Memorial Airport. The 76-yaer-old Steenwyk served as a helicopter and aircraft mechanic and was stationed in Fort Hood Texas, Fort Rucker, Alabama, and Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico.
