Man uses fake county checks to steal thousands from bank

A man who tried to rip off the county and the bank has been indicted on felony forgery counts.The suspect, Steve Michael Minchey, 33, of West Point, Ky., has been indicted on multiple counts of grand theft and felony forgery. He will be arraigned at a later date by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley.His indictments come from trying to fraudulently pass checks he claimed were signed to him by the Warren County Highway Department. He passed the checks at Security Federal Savings Bank, at both their Main Street and New Smithville Highway branches.“When in the bank, he presented a check to the teller from Warren County, Tennessee/ Highway/ Public Works Department,” said McMinnville police detective Barry Powers in his warrants against Minchey.Powers noted there were at least two different checks presented by Minchey bearing the name of the local highway department.
