A man will serve a month in jail for smacking his 8-year-old niece in the face after he said she swore at him.The uncle, Truman J. Gore, 22, entered a guilty plea before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of child abuse. He was directed to serve 30 days of a two-year sentence, perform 16 hours public service work, and attend anger management for child abuse of a child 8 years of age or younger.Gore was charged after police were called to the Jungle Jym to investigate a report a child had been assaulted. When they arrived, they found Gore and his niece.“She had visible swelling and small bruising on the left side of her face,” said McMinnville officer Aaron Roberts.During subsequent questioning, Gore admitted to striking the child.“Mr. Gore stated he slapped the child in the mouth for swearing at him,” said Roberts, noting Gore claimed it to be a light slap. When the child’s mother was called to the scene it was learned, through the victim, that Gore had allegedly slapped her five times and jerked her around by the arm.
