A 29-year-old Smithville resident was robbed early Friday morning at Scottish Inns on Sparta Street.
According to McMinnville detective Stuart Whitman, the male victim had recently received his income tax return and had come to McMinnville to celebrate. However, in celebrating with a group of friends Thursday night and into Friday morning, the victim was attacked.
“He invited them here to party with him and they wanted his money,” said Whitman. “The victim did know all of his offenders. They were hanging out together when things went bad.”
Whitman said the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday when the victim was reportedly hit in the head with a tire iron. He was transported to River Park Hospital for treatment of what was described as a minor injury.
Police have not disclosed the victim’s name or how much money was taken. Whitman did say the victim was able to provide him with not only the names but the phone numbers of the people who attacked him.
