A man caught wading across a stream with stolen merchandise in his hands will serve 45 days in jail.The man, Clayton Bradley Lance, 41, of Smithville, entered a guilty plea before General Sessions Judge Larry Ross to the charge of theft. He must make $200 restitution and has been warned to stay away from the victim’s business.Lance was busted as he was trying to leave Donald Hennessee’s scrap metal yard on Yager Road.Hennessee said he has been having constant problems with people stealing scrap metal from his yard. The problems had forced him to place a fence around most of his property and to post no trespassing signs in hopes of keeping people out.
