Longtime Standard writer Howard loses cancer battle

As the Relay for Life event approaches, friends across this community and former co-workers at the Southern Standard have had the need to conquer cancer brought home in a personal and relevant manner. Janice McGiboney Howard, longtime society/ lifestyles editor at the Standard and a true activist, church and community leader and genuine Southern woman lost her valiant battle to the ravages of this insidious disease.Mrs. Howard, whose quiet demeanor often masked an innate humor, chronicled the births, engagements, weddings and social activities of thousands of Warren countians in her more than 20 years as lifestyles editor. The daughter of the late Omar and Kathleen Haston McGiboney, Janice came by her writing skills naturally as her mom also served as women’s editor throughout the 1960s and ’70s.
