Local nurserymen Boyd and Hobbs on SNA board

The SNA (Southern Nursery Association), a non-profit, professional trade association representing the horticultural industry in the southern U.S., announced today its new board of directors elected at the 114th Annual SNA Business Meeting held on January 19, during the Gulf States Horticultural Exposition in Mobile, Ala.
2012 SNA Officers include:
President William J. "Bill" Boyd, Flower City Nurseries;
Vice President/Treasurer/Director Chapter 4 (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas) Jeffrey Howell, Rocky Creek Nursery, Lucedale, Miss.;
Executive Vice President Karen Summers, Summers & Associates, Acworth, Ga.
2012 SNA Board of Directors include:
Director Chapter 1 (Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia) Eelco Tinga, Jr., Tinga Nursery, Inc., Castle Hayne, N. Car.;
Director Chapter 2 (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina) Richard May, May Nursery, Havana, Fla.;
Director Chapter 3 (Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee) Michael Hobbs, Warren County Nursery; and
Immediate Past President, Randy Bracy, Bracy's Nursery, LLC, Amite, La.

"I look forward to working with this new board and carrying out their directives as we move forward in redefining and rebuilding the SNA," said Karen Summers, Executive Vice President. "Their knowledge, expertise and vision will be an invaluable contribution to the association and will significantly accelerate our restructuring and growth initiatives."
Newly elected president, Bill Boyd, is serving his second term on the SNA board. He served his first term from 2002 - 2007, serving as president in 2006.
Eelco Tinga, Jr. is serving his second term on the SNA Board as well. He served his first term on the SNA Board from 2005 - 2010, and served as SNA President in 2009.
"It is an honor to have these two well-seasoned and knowledgeable men serving on the SNA board during this time, said Danny Summers, board advisor, Southern Nursery Association. "They both understand where SNA has been and where we need to go. Their wisdom can help steer us in the right direction as we set new goals for the future."
Newly elected board member, Michael Hobbs, is president of Warren County Nursery. A third generation nurseryman, Hobbs has been active in the industry for more than 40 years. Founded by his father and mother, Leslie and Frances Hobbs, in 1950, Warren County Nursery is a wholesale field growing operation with greenhouses for liner production offering a complete line of bare root seedlings, cuttings, liners, vines, wildflowers, fruit and nut trees, balled & burlap shrubs, shade trees, ornamentals and evergreens. Warren County Nursery has over 400 acres in production and over the past 60 years has become recognized as a supplier of native plants used in wetlands and reforestation plantings.
Hobbs has served on the Tennessee Nursery & Landscape Association Board of Directors and served as president in 1979 and 1990. He was awarded the Tennessee Nursery & Landscape Association Wholesale Nurseryman of the Year in 1990. He received SNA's David E. Laird, Sr. Memorial Award in 1980, and served on the SNA Trade Show Committee in 2005. Hobbs has also served on the Horticultural Research Institute's Board as well as many other industry committees. Locally he has received the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1980 and served as McMinnville Jaycees President in 1982.
He and wife of 42 years, Margaret, have three daughters and four grandchildren.
