Comparing one’s spiritual needs with their physical needs, River Park nurse Helen Owens called upon her considerable medical experience to write a book entitled “You: Consuming God,” which is available now.“I had been using this as a Bible study for our class at Pioneer Community Church and I felt compelled to put it into a book,” Owens said during her books signing at Three Star Mall yesterday. “The book is a good Bible study for both individuals and for small groups.”The book was published through Cross Books at Lifeway Publishing and has passed Lifeway’s stringent theological review.Owens said the book itself is small but it’s packed with useful material.“It’s small but it has a lot of good information,” Owens said, noting she drew on her nursing experience from the family birthing unit at River Park in writing the book.“You can see the nursing influence in the book,” said Owens, who has been working for River Park since 1988. “It’s a comparison of how our physical needs are like our spiritual needs.”As an example, Owens pointed to portions of the book which compared a newborn baby with that of a newborn Christian.“When a person is a baby in Christ, that person has needs just like a newborn baby,” Owens said, noting the comparisons are many in her book.Chapters in the book include Hunger Pains, Thirsting for Living Water, and Life-Sustaining Love.
