A convicted sex offender could face 12 years in prison for allegedly holding his girlfriend hostage in his RV with a gun.
The suspect, Mark Kevin Smith, 38, of Clarksville is charged with aggravated kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of the sex offender registry and aggravated assault.
The 31-year-old female victim told officers she was held hostage after she was savagely beaten by Smith.
“He slammed her head against her truck,” said sheriff’s investigator Jason Rowland. “She still had numerous bruises from the attack visible at the time of this report.”
The victim told law enforcement she was not permitted to leave the RV.
“Mr. Smith was armed with a pistol and told the victim, on more than one occasion, that he would kill her,” Rowland said of the days she was kept inside the RV.
An inspection of Smith’s record reveals he is a convicted sex offender, convicted of sexual assault in 2007. As such, he is required to list himself with the sex offender registry and report any change of address in 48 hours.
Evidence shows Smith had been in Warren County about three months and had failed to update his address. Rowland said Smith having possession of a firearm is also a crime since he is barred as a convicted felon.
