Morrison Ruritan bestowed two honors during its annual banquet for 2021.
Wes Williams was named Ruritan of the Year. A member since 2008, he served two consecutive years as president.
“Morrison Ruritan is an organization that has been a pillar in the Morrison community for a number of years,” said Williams. “The club is full of selfless people who volunteer countless hours to serve their community. It’s a group of great people who work really hard. It is an honor for them to choose me as Ruritan of the Year.”
Morrison Ruritan member Sue Anderson says Williams is a credit to the organization.
“Wes is always willing to help in any way needed,” said Anderson. “We couldn’t make it without his dedication to the club. He always has a smile and is so good to work with. He’s a blessing.”
Volunteer of the Year was presented to Tim Gallagher, a distinction given to an individual who is not a Ruritan member, but offers assistance during events.
“Tim was amazingly helpful during our Fourth of July activities,” said Anderson. “He’s always willing to help whenever needed.”
Morrison Ruritan serves the community by organizing a softball league, an elementary basketball tournament, offering food boxes, providing scholarships to seniors, holding a Fourth of July celebration and many more areas.
Williams urges others to consider participation.
“I encourage anyone who is interested in being a part of Morrison Ruritan to reach out,” he said. “We have meetings once a month and there will always be an open seat for you. It takes an army to continue to serve like the Ruritan does.”
