Serving his second term, Warren County Commissioner Blaine Wilcher says he was inspired to run again because he wants his kids, and their kids, to have the best chance to stay in this community and prosper.

To learn more about District 4 County Commissioner Blaine Wilcher, check out this week’s snapshot.

Q: Briefly describe yourself.

A:  I’m a Christian conservative with a heart for Warren County’s future, which I believe can be great with all of us working together and using common sense. I’m married to Lorie Wilcher and have three daughters, Lindsay (and Michael) Mooneyhan, Kelsey Wilcher and Zoe Wilcher.

Q: What are your hobbies/interests?

A: I really enjoy camping with my family, car shows, exercise and running.

Q: Why you are so emotionally invested in Animal Control?

A: I have been around dogs and cats all my life. They can’t speak for themselves, so we must.

Q: Do you have any pets?

A: Yes, two dogs – Rocko and Peta and four cats – Paulie, Apollo, Izzy and Karmel.

Q: Can you share one saying you love or piece of advice that keeps you going?

A: Hebrews 12:1, which basically tells us to lay down our problems (sins) and run the race set before us.

Q: What is the one movie that you can quote the most?

A: All Rocky movies. They’re all good!

Q: How long have you been a commissioner? What major decisions have you been a part of?

A:  Nine years. The name change at Animal Control, to add Adoption, for some reason was extremely hard to push through, but was so rewarding. It not only helped improve our image, by showing we were concentrating on redemption of the unwanted animals, but it also opened us up to more grant opportunities and adoption options. I have proudly voted for balanced budgets, with no tax increase for each year of my two terms. I have worked hard to get caution lights put up at the intersection of Old Rock Island Road and Highway 70, which will happen in June.

Q: What committees are you on?

A: I’m the chairman of Health and Welfare. I think we have the best committee, period. Each of us cares about our unwanted pets and the work it takes to keep our public safe from dangerous animals. I’m also on the Highway and Bridge Committee with a great bunch of folks who want Warren County to have the best roads possible. As a chairman, I’m also a member of the Procedure and Rules Committee.

Q: Do you have any specific goals to share?

A: My next big stretch project is installing a classic garage in the Fairfield Village at the fair. I already have nearly all of the materials and labor covered by local sponsors. I have met with the Fair Board and we have discussed it several times. It won’t happen before this year’s fair, but I hope to get approval for next year. This would include old signage, a gas pump, jukebox and classic cars and trucks for viewing.

Q: How would you describe the current County Commission with three words?

A: One great team.

Q: Best way to communicate with you?

A: My cell, call or text me at 931-743-2461. Please tell me who you are … so I won't dismiss it as a call about my car’s extended warranty, etc.
