Funeral service is scheduled this Monday for a 17-year-old Van Buren County High School student who died Thursday during a river outing with friends.

According to information from the Layne Funeral Home website, Jodie Cheyenne Blaylock Alwin was about to graduate with the Van Buren County class of 2019. The senior was reportedly on an outing with friends at the time of her death.

Her funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Layne Funeral Home in Spencer. Visitation is Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 11 a.m. till the time of service.

Attempts to get exact details about what led to Jodie’s death have been unsuccessful. Her father indicated in an online post she was with friends on a trip to a nearby river when she fell and passed away from injuries related to the fall.

Her obituary describes her as “an animal lover, a people person, and always tried to be everyone’s friend.”
