Noonday traffic was halted on N. Spring Street on Friday after a near head-on collision left one vehicle on its side.
According to McMinnville Police Department patrolman Fred Lee, conflicting statements led to an educated guess about who was at fault for a collision at N. Spring Street and Donnell Street on Friday.
“I did receive conflicting statements from both drivers,” said Lee. “The point of impact appeared to be in the southbound lane. That tells me the Hyundai Sonata had crossed the center line when the accident occurred.”
The 2008 Hyundai’s driver was Devon Yokeum, 18, from Rutherford County.
“Mr. Yokeum stated he turned onto N. Spring Street from Walling and was waiting to make a left onto Donnell Street. He said he was stopped within his lane when the accident occurred.”
Traveling toward downtown in the southbound lane of N. Spring Street was Drue Rockwell, 31, a Warren County resident driving a 2015 Toyota 4-Runner.
Lee says Rockwell also stated that he was in his lane of travel when the accident occurred.
The vehicles collided on the front drivers’ sides. Force of the impact spun the Hyundai and caused the 4-Runner to flip onto its side. No injuries were reported.
Yokeum was cited for driving without insurance.
