Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency is seeking Warren County government’s assistance in stopping gasoline theft.
“UCHRA contacted me,” said Commissioner Carl E. Bouldin during the last meeting of the county Building and Grounds Committee. “Someone has been trying to steal some more gas out of their trucks. If you remember back a year, or two years ago, we put in a security light out there. They say that’s not enough because they are still getting gas. They want us to put up more security lights out there for them.”
Bouldin said he discussed the issue with County Executive Herschel Wells. He suggested committee members drive through the area after dark to get a feel for the situation and make recommendations for how many lights might be needed to better illuminate the area.
“I don’t know if we need one 10,000 watt out there or two 7,000 or 8,000 watts,” said Bouldin. “They’re out there trying to steal gas out of the UCHRA vehicles. I would like to have a motion to place whatever McMinnville Electric System recommends or whatever Herschel recommends, and install those lights within the next week or so.”
It was asked by Commissioner Tommy Savage if they use locking gas caps.
“I wouldn’t think so, but I don’t know,” said Bouldin.
Commissioner Blaine Wilcher added, “That would be $5 apiece. That I’d spend before I’d put lights up.”
“I’ll mention it to them tomorrow and I’ll mention it to Herschel too, that y’all think that’s a better idea,” said Bouldin. “If they aren’t satisfied with that, we’ll put up some lights – that way, we’ve covered all the bases.”
Committee members voted to urge the use of locking gas caps, as well as more lights for added security, if that is deemed necessary.
