McMinnville’s Tourism Development Board and a tax partially funding it have both been approved. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen accepted on final read the tourism bylaws and a motel tax of 2.5 percent levied against local hotels. While tourism bylaws passed unanimously 7-0, a motel tax to fund its activities passed 6-1. Taxation drew a dissenting vote from Alderman Steve Harvey, who said he is in favor of establishing a Tourism Development Board, but believes the city should fund it and not place that burden on the community.“I’m against this tax,” said Harvey.
