A woman faces felony charges after she allegedly ripped off her ex-father-in-law’s credit card without him knowing.
The woman, Amy Nicole Tibbetts, 30, will face hearing Tuesday before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on charges of forgery, theft and attempted fraudulent use of a credit card.
Tibbetts was charged after the victim discovered his Lowe’s credit card had been stolen. The discovery was made when he was called by Lowe’s and told he had reached his credit card limit of $1,500. The victim thought that odd since he had not made any charges on his Lowe’s card.
Sheriff’s investigator Travis Thaxton took the case and went to Lowe’s where he found there had been a purchase on the card for $310. He then had them pull video surveillance footage where he viewed Ms. Tibbetts along with a man pushing a buggy through the store. They then made the purchase of a chainsaw, soft drink, and a can off Deep Woods Off spray.
The investigator learned the Lowe’s incident was just one of a handful of cases Ms. Tibbetts was involved in as she had fraudulently added her name to a Discover card account without her ex-father-in-law knowing.
“She booked a reservation at America’s Best Value Inn at Sunnyside Heights for a value applied to the Discover card for $573,” Thaxton said of her four-night stay at the local hotel.
Investigators also found she was able to use the card to get $150, resulting in yet another theft charge against her.
