Bart Stanley was elected to his fourth term as Circuit Court Judge on Thursday night, fending off a challenge from Scott Horton.

Stanley was returned to office in convincing fashion by gaining 65.6% of the vote in the 31st Judicial District of Warren and Van Buren counties.

Stanley received a combined total of 6,898 votes in the two counties. That included 5,675 votes in Warren County.

Horton received a combined 3,615 votes. That included 2,927 votes in Warren County.

Stanley will have served 20 years as Circuit Court Judge when his current term expires Aug. 31. He was first elected in 2002 when he won a four-person race to claim the job mid-term. The next two Circuit Court elections, in 2006 and 2014, Stanley won unopposed races.

Stanley stressed during the campaign trail that he’s not only done his job for 20 years, but he’s done it well. He says creating a successful Drug Court program that has reduced recidivism is one of his top accomplishments.

If he fulfills the eight-year term voters gave him Thursday night, Stanley will have 28 years of experience on the bench.
