Local residents are being given their opportunity to shine. Hollywood at the Park, a pre-Oscar event, is scheduled for Feb. 8.
“It’s not required to dress up, but why wouldn’t you want to?” said David Williams, an event organizer. “This is your chance to dress up like a celebrity, or like your favorite celebrity, and walk the red carpet. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if a Marilyn Monroe showed up?”
The red-carpet occasion will be an evening of entertainment, voting for Oscar-nominated favorites and an amazing selection of hors d’oeuvres to spotlight the 92nd Oscars to be held Feb. 9 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and televised live on ABC.
“Celebrities will walk the red carpet into Park Theater,” said Williams. “Ben Lomand Connect will be broadcasting red carpet arrivals live on BLTV. We plan on having reporting from the red carpet, where people can be photographed and interviewed like real celebrities.”
A special photo opportunity is in the works for star-studded red carpet arrivals.
“We hope to have a limo sitting in front of Park Theater that can be used as a prop,” said Williams. “People can be photographed like they arrived at the event in a limo. Hopefully, we can make that happen.”
The pre-Oscar event is a fundraiser for Kids of the Community and presented by The Sunday Night Movie Club, of which Williams is a founding member. All proceeds go to Kids of the Community.
Tickets are $25 per person or $40 per couple and can be purchased at Wink Skincare on N. Spring Street, Northside Video on Old Smithville Highway, Ashley’s Attic on Main Street, and All-O-K’Sions Flowers and Gifts on West Morford Street.
Hollywood at the Park begins at 6 p.m. on the red carpet. Doors close at 7 p.m. for the show.
