Snow days gone

Warren County students are left in an unusual predicament. If they keep hoping for snow, it will likely take days away from their summer vacation.

Warren County Schools were out Friday due to snow. It was the school system’s 10th and final inclement weather day for the year. Six of the 10 days were used due to illness.

Warren County is now left with only one day which could be used if more bad weather strikes. A professional development day scheduled for May 20 could be rolled over to an inclement weather day if needed. After that, there are no more days.

“If we have to be out again, we have a professional development day in May we can convert to a weather day,” said Director of Schools Bobby Cox. “Past that we will add days to the end of the year to make up the time.”

The last scheduled day of school is May 21 with that being an abbreviated day from 7:45 to 9:45 a.m. Graduation is also scheduled for May 21 at Nunley Stadium.

“If we do extend the calendar, graduation day will remain the same,” said Cox.

The School Board finalized the 2020-21 school calendar at its regular monthly meeting Thursday night. That calendar calls for the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 12 with the last day being Thursday, May 27, 2021.
