Smith charged after plunging over embankment

A driver faces reckless endangerment charges after the vehicle he was driving plunged over an embankment in Rock Island as he and his four passengers were leaving a wedding reception.The driver, Clinton L. Smith, is charged with reckless endangerment by motor vehicle. He will face hearing on the count Dec. 22.His charge comes following a late-night crash on Beach Road at Rock Island State Park as he and friends were returning home from a wedding reception.“He was driving on vehicle on the 25 mph road in a reckless manner,” said Highway Patrolman Gary Myers, noting the suspect lost control of his Toyota Four Runner. “He traveled across the westbound lane and collided with a small tree.”The small SUV then careened down a deep ravine, coming to rest at the bottom.
