A repeat shoplifter faces charges for allegedly using his stepson as his partner in crime to rip off Dollar General in Morrison. The stepfather, Shane McCoy, 34, has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after the crime was discovered during the review of a surveillance tape at Dollar General.According to sheriff’s investigator Aaron Roberts, the two can be seen acting as a team while McCoy stole a charcoal grill from a display outside the Morrison store. McCoy was recognized because he had already been banned from the store for an earlier shoplifting incident.“He took the grill while his juvenile stepson entered the store and appeared to distract the employees from the front door,” Roberts revealed of what is seen on the tape. “Mr. McCoy can be seen looking in the front door twice and opening it once to look for employees of the store and to call for his stepson.”Roberts said the juvenile left the store without buying anything and that he and his stepfather can then be seen leaving the scene with the stolen grill. After viewing the tape, the investigator went to speak with McCoy and quickly found evidence to support the suspect’s arrest.“In front of their residence a box of the stolen grill was located in plain view but the grill had already been removed from the box,” Roberts said.It has not been revealed if the man’s stepson will be charged for his part in the crime.
