If you’re trying to find a reason to put on your dancing shoes, the Senior Center is providing the opportunity this Saturday.
A line dancing party will take place at the Senior Center featuring DJs Jason Gross and Rockin’ Raymond Adcock. Local seniors are encouraging their peers to get active and participate. The party starts at 6 p.m.
“Seventy is the new 50,” said Sandra Burger in saying people are remaining active later in life more than ever before. Burger said she logged 20,000 steps in just one day last week on St. Patrick’s Day when she volunteered at a Senior Center party, among other activities.
Mary Mullican said she had never danced before taking line dancing classes and now she’s got boogie in her shoes.
“I’ll be doing chores around the house, hear a song, and I’ll want to start dancing,” said Mullican.
Edie Dykes says she doesn’t embrace a sedentary lifestyle. She says some mornings she leaves the house at 7:30 a.m. and stays busy the entire day.
“You have to have the right attitude,” said Dykes. “I hear people half my age sitting around and complaining about this and that. Most people don’t want to hear it.”
If you’re looking for a great way to get acquainted with the Senior Center and its many offering, the local residents say this Saturday’s line dancing party is a great place to start. Guests are asked to bring finger food and be ready for a night of dancing and socializing. The cost is $5 per person. The Senior Center is located at 809 Morrison Street.
“Connie Smith is the new director and she’s really pushing for a lot of new activities at the center,” said Burger.
