Senior Citizen’s Day at the Warren County A&L Fair was a big hit on Tuesday with hundreds showing up to both enjoy and participate in the events.

The fair first added this event for the Senior Citizens in 1977 and ever since then, those over 60 have been coming out and enjoying the fun. Senior Center Executive Director Lana Whitlock said there were 20 different booths set up providing freebies and information to the over 300 people in attendance.

The main events were the multiple contests and the Mr. and Ms. Senior Warren County Contest.

Art Larson took home the title of Mr. Senior Warren County. During the contest each contestant was asked what they like best about the Warren County Senior Center and Larson gave an answer the judges liked.

“I like to bring the wife out there to do her socializing and it takes her mind off her problems. I enjoy the karaoke and I just enjoy things like today, fair day,” said Larson.

Billy Pittard came in second place, Randall St. John came in third, and Ronnie Crowe came in fourth.

Sandra Burger was crowned Ms. Senior Warren County and beat out the 15 other contestants. She was also asked what she liked best about the senior center.

“I love all the people,” said Burger.

Also placing were Melanie Turner in second place, Ruth Hooper in third, and Tina Ramsey in fourth.

Other fun contests were Man with the Sexiest Legs where Sonny McCormick came in first place and Lady with the Prettiest Legs where Turner came in first place. Jurrel Wood had the audience rolling with laughter in the joke telling contest when she explained how having a dog named “Sex” causes confusion, especially when he goes missing and she has to tell people she is looking for Sex. She won first place in that contest.

Other contest winners include Marion Speaks who took home first place in the Hog Calling contest. Doyle Speaks came in first in the Rooster Crowing contest. Judy Hale came in first in the hat day contest with her chicken hat. Mary Gray won first place in the oldest woman contest and Calvin Wallace came in first in the oldest male contest.

Art and Elaine Larson were recognized as the longest married couple with 61 years of marriage and Paul and Anne Webster followed closely behind with 59 years. Melba Gross wowed the judges with her harmonica skills and won first place in the single talent contest.

Paul Webster and Faye Gunter won first place by singing in the group talent contest. The contests ended with a karaoke contest where Gary Hitchcock won first place.
