Warren County Rescue Squad could receive a $10,800 upgrade to its parking area.
Members of the city Streets and Sanitation Committee met Tuesday to review bids on paving the front parking lot of the property.
“We approached Rogers Group and Tinsley Asphalt about paving the Rescue Squad parking area,” said McMinnville Public Works assistant director Brad Hennessee. “Essentially the area out front is 80 by 90 that needs repair. The strip down the side is in good condition and doesn’t need paving at this time. I met with estimators from both companies. They both had varying degrees of repair work that they thought needed to be done but they bid the same topping mix to cover the area.”
After the walk-thru, Rogers Group submitted a bid of $10,800 and Tinsley Asphalt submitted a bid of $14,060.
Hennessee says he contacted Tinsley about the $3,260 difference to make sure the company was using the same topping mix as Rogers Group.
“When I saw the difference, I emailed Tinsley to make sure we were comparing apples to apples as far as the topping mix from both. It was. The recommendation from Public Works Department is to accept the quote from Rogers Group.”
During the city’s 2015 budget discussions, Rescue Squad representatives asked officials to consider giving a larger donation so the organization could make improvements to the building, which the city owns. Instead, officials asked its Public Works Department to make improvements to the property.
Hennessee says the wish list given to them is almost complete.
“We are in the process of having two roll-up doors installed,” he said. “Once those are done, paving is the only item lacking on the list they gave us last year.”
Aldermen Ryle Chastain, Jimmy Bonner and Steve Harvey unanimously approved the bid from Rogers Group. The measure will be sent to the full Board of Mayor and Aldermen for its consideration.
