Pool goes to the dogs
Two chocolate labs prepare to leap into Gilley Pool to make a splash. The fourth annual Waterpaws is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a $4 admission charge.

With temperatures in the high 90s, the dog days of summer are still here, no more so than at Gilley Pool.

The fourth annual Waterpaws is set for this Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gilley Pool. The event allows everyone to bring their dog for a swim.

The event is offered by McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department and will provide fundraising for Helping Animals of Warren County (HAWC) to benefit animals in the community.

A pet food drive will be held, and every donation will give participants a chance to win a door prize. Puppy Paw Painting will be available for $5 and uses each dog’s paw to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

“People are happy to have something to do with their dogs,” says McMinnville Parks and Recreation programs coordinator Kyle Clyde. “For a lot of people, their dogs are their best friends, and this is a great opportunity to enjoy Gilley Pool with those four-legged friends.”

All dogs who attend must have proof of current rabies vaccinations to gain access into the pool. Dogs must show no signs of aggression and must be kept on a leash when not swimming. No humans will be allowed past knee-deep water, and owners must clean up after their dogs.

Admission is $4 at the gate.
