Police Department staying put for now

McMinnville Police Department is staying at Red Road Business Park for up to two more years, per a lease extension.

“While we are in planning and development stage of a new police facility, the lease extension is a logical move,” said Police Chief Bryan Denton. “The current building provides adequate space and functionality while we work toward a permanent home. We have enjoyed a good relationship with the owners and expect that to continue for whatever length of time we remain.”

Under previous consideration was construction of a new precinct overlooking Pepper Branch Park. Officials selected AEI Architects, Engineers and Planners to design the building plans. However, the process ended and was placed on hold until the city can strengthen its current financial situation.

Alderman Everett Brock said it will be a year or more before those plans move forward.

“That project is probably on hold for a year at least,” said Brock.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved extending the lease for two years under the exact same terms and monthly rent of $3,500. Within the agreement, either party may terminate the lease agreement with a 180-day written notice.
