Park Theater Advisory Board bylaws are being generated.
The city Parks and Recreation Committee met Tuesday to review proposed rules to govern the group that will provide non-binding, strategic advice regarding Park Theater and the events offered there. Board members will not have authority to vote on matters. They will provide suggestions only.
The board would be comprised of seven members: Park Theater manager as chair, a Parks and Recreation Committee member, and five citizens to be selected and appointed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The Park Theater administrative assistant will act as secretary.
“That gives diversity,” said Alderman Ben Newman. “It allows people who have dealt directly with Park Theater a chance to be on this board and give input. I think that’s good.”
The five citizens would serve staggered two-year terms, with two members being replaced one year and three members replaced the following year.
“Every year, we would be appointing two or three new people to it,” said Newman. “I think that’s a good way to do it.”
When the board is first established, two people would only serve one year in order to start the staggered terms. After that, each citizen member would serve two years each.
The Advisory Board would meet quarterly and individuals must be residents of the McMinnville/ Warren County area.
Alderman Steve Harvey asked if consideration has been given to restricting membership to city residents only.
“I went back and forth on that,” said Newman. “If you have it just city residents, you limit yourself on who you have. It’s not like these people are being given a binding vote so I think it’s OK to draw from a larger pool.”
Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord added, “There are a lot of people who are invested in the city but don’t live in the city.”
The bylaws were tabled for further consideration.
