Nursery Sale this weekend

For those wanting to dig in and help Project Graduation, the 26th annual Nursery Sale is taking place this Friday and Saturday in the front parking lot of Bobby Ray Elementary.

Plants, shrubs and trees donated from area nurseries are available to purchase at what organizers say are extremely low prices.

“This is good, quality nursery stock and you get it at a discount price,” said Shannon Haston, chair of the Nursery Sale. “All the proceeds from this go to the Project Graduation event. This is normally our biggest and largest fundraiser so we’re hoping everyone in the community will come out and buy as many trees as they want.”

Haston estimates she reached out to about 80 area nurseries and is pleased to say 65 of them were generous enough to make a donation.

“It adds up when that many nurseries donate four or five trees,” said Haston. “We’ll have a little of everything -- dogwoods, red buds, sugar maples, nandinas, just to name a few.”

If you’re worried about loading the trees, high school seniors will be available to help with the smaller items and skid loaders will be on hand to lift the heavier trees.

“Just pull up a truck and we’ll load you down,” said Haston.

Nursery sale hours are Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

All money raised will be used to help graduating seniors and their guests have a safe and memorable night.

Project Graduation is held after WCHS graduation as a way to keep seniors off the road and in an environment where they can play games and socialize without drugs and alcohol.

Due to renovation work at McMinnville Civic Center, this year’s event will be held at WCHS.
