The fabled Project Graduation Nursery Sale will be sprouting roots at a new location this year.
It will be held at the Big Lots parking lot April 2-3.
“Plants, shrubs and trees donated from area nurseries will be available to purchase at a great price,” said event organizer Tanarra Grissom. “This is quality nursery stock that has been donated by area nurseries. We are so fortunate to have so many generous nurseries donating this year.”
Grissom said about 25 area nurseries are making donations. Items available will include Crape myrtle, dogwood, shrubbery, boxwood, crabapple, maple, cypress, oak, holly, monkey grass, and much more.
The nursery sale is usually the largest fundraiser for Project Graduation and all proceeds from this fundraiser go to the Project Graduation overnight event. Project Graduation is held after WCHS seniors graduate to give them a safe place to celebrate and enjoy one final event together.
“This year we hope to have it at The Detention in Morrison,” said Grissom. “We hope to rent out the whole complex, including the gym. We think that will be a great place to have it and we hope with the COVID guidelines that are in place at that time we’ll be able to pull it off.”
The annual sale had been held for decades at Bobby Ray Elementary. Grissom thinks the new location at Big Lots could be a plus.
“We’ll be right there on the bypass so maybe it will lead to greater visibility,” she said.
Seniors from the class of 2021, along with their parents and family, will be volunteering at the sale. Hours are Friday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, April 3, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon.
“Hopefully with the weather getting nicer people are ready to buy things to plant in their yard,” said Grissom.
